The Village of Mizerna

There is much that can be said about this little mountaineer village that is situated in the valley between the Gorce National Park and the Tatra National Park. The people here live their lives very much the same as they have done for many years. You can be woken in the mornings by the cockerels crowing and birds singing with the trickling sound from the stream running past the house.

When you go out into the village you will see the everyday life of the Polish people that live here, chickens are walking around the houses little dogs running around the fields. Farmers walking their cows up the road to the fields for the day and forest men and their horses off to gather the winter wood.

From Mizerna you can walk up into the Gorce National Park, where you can enjoy the peace and beauty of the Gorce mountains and it's wild life while you have a panoramic view of the Tatra Mountains and the Czorsztynski Lake that lays in the valley between The Gorce and Tatra mountains. The Czorsztynski Lake is the largest man made reservoir in Poland, during the summer months different water equipment is available for rent alone The Czorsztynski lake at a very low price. Offering many different ways of enjoying the lake and it's surrounding nature.

If you are up for a longer walk or maybe hiring a kayak you can make your way to the Czorsztyn Castle that is situated high above the original river bed that now is a the bottom of the lake. On your way here you may want to drop in on the open-air museum of traditional house that where moved before the lake was flooded to it's present level.

Walking down Mizerna towards the lake will lead you past two traditional little village shops where every little corner has something piled up in it, you can buy almost anything in little shops like this. On your way back up the village you may want to stop in on the village pub, where you will find most local alcohols on sale and have a chance to get to know the locals a little better.

If you head off in the other direction you will find your self by our local ski resort. The ski resort is open for the ski season from Christmas until about the last week of March when you can hire ski equipment and have an English ski instructor to help you take your first few steps. In the summer it is used as a view point with panoramic views of the Tatra's and the Pieniny Mountain ranges.

Other attractions in Mizerna is for example the Shepard with his sheep that come to Mizerna every year where he lives in his Shepard's hut making smoked cheeses from goats, sheeps and cow milk. Maybe you will get a butter making demonstrations or maybe you can get a chance to try your hand at milking a cow.

There are miles and miles of walking to be done from here. Marked and unmarked trails lead you high up into different mountains and though beautiful valleys.
