Rafting along the Dunajec Ravine

The Pieniny Mountains on the Polish-Slovakian border, are not spectacularly big; the main ridge is less than 30 km long and the range is only 3-4km wide. However, in such a small space there is an exceptional variety of fona and flora.

This is why the Pieniny mountians are believed to be one of the most picturesque corners of Poland and one of the principal natural rarities of Europe. Also the unique culture of the Pieniny is one of their great attractions. A trip on a wooden raft down the Dunajec gorge is an unforgettable experience. Rafting on the Dunajec has almost two hundred years of history behind it. As early as in 1980 it was described in the tourist literature. Years ago, it began in Czorsztyn in front of the Niedzica Palace. This place is now at the bottom of the Czorsztynski lake, in the memory of a few elderly people and in the splendid photographs by Edward Hartwig.

On a traditionally built, wooden raft tourists are taken down the Dunajec, which flows through the deep and winding Dunajec gorge. The river Dunajec, changes its direction six times, winding its way past rocks faces that are up to five hundred meters above the water table. The trip takes two or three hours, depending on the water level and the choice of your destination marina. The fast changing views that meat you on this trip will take your breath away and meantime raftsmen entertain tourists with mountaineers tales and raftsmen's riddles- Will we pass the next glade, on the left or right? There is no shame in getting this wrong as many thousands of tourists before have made the same mistakes.

This is a beautiful way to see the Pieniny National Park and one of the most visited attractions by our guests. It combines the joy of the breathtaking nature and traditional culture of the mountaineers in a unique and spectacular way.
